According to a report by the World Health Organization in 2015, myopia is increasing at an alarming rate globally. Studies also show that children become myopic at a younger age. Today, the number of children between the ages of 10 to 16 years with myopia has more than doubled. These statistics are alarming.
In 2020, CooperVision debuted its Brilliant Futures™ program to create an improved standard of care for kids with myopia. CooperVision partners with pediatric health communities, ophthalmology, and optometry. This is to work on the Brilliant Futures program to change the lives of countless children with myopia.
Brilliant Futures was built around MiSight® 1 day contact lenses. These help to slow the progression of myopia.
Myopia is the inability to see objects clearly at a distance. It is commonly referred to as nearsightedness. Currently, this eye condition has been on the rise in its severity and frequency. Two main factors that led to its escalation are:
The MiSight 1 day contact lenses are the first and the only soft innovative lenses approved by the Food and Drug Administration. After several tests, these lenses slowed the progression of myopia in children between the ages of eight to 12 years. These lenses use ActivControl™ technology that creates a myopic retinal defocus. It also helps to correct the patient’s vision through a personalized prescription so that they can see clearly.
The MiSight lenses are disposable lenses that should be worn for only a day. This created disposable lenses to prevent the cleaning routines required for normal lenses. Since they are designed to fit easily, a child does not have to fiddle with the lens for long when putting them on. This helps to optimize the health of their eyes.
The program has developed a messaging portal that is text-based to act as a user support system. The system is used to link patients directly to certified practitioners who are part of the program. The system is also designed to gauge their MiSight 1-day contact use experience.
The program also provides tools to practitioners to help them identify kids at risk of developing myopia. Sophisticated communication tools are provided to help them teach their patients because it is important that they join the program and commit to it.
Practitioners learn through CooperVision’s online learning academy to understand what the program is all about. Also, they learn why it is important to develop a myopia management practice in their businesses. Through the program, patients are fully aware of what the program entails. They also get information on where they can buy more products without much hassle.
The program has also created an interactive mobile app for the patients. It provides information on myopia management, videos about lens handling instructions, and how to order products.
